There have been SO many spin-offs and adaptations of The Phantom of the Opera... I was just wondering, which version is your favorite? (This includes any and all sequels and adaptations in any form of media.)
I guess my favorite book is the original story, by Gaston Leroux. You don't get better than the original!
And my favorite movie... probably the 1990 miniseries with Charles Dance and Terri Polo. Even though they took creative liberties (To put it mildly) with the story, I think they captured Erik's complex personality the best in that version.
Anyone have a different opinion?

I agree with you about the miniseries, it was quite good and I think like you said, they got what Erik was kind of like.
The version I have to like the best out of all I read though, is Susan Kay's Phantom. It is about his life before the Opera House, and of course when he meets Christine. I love how the story is told by the perspective of different Characters such as Nadir Khan, Erik, Erik's Mother and even Raoul at the end. It shows why Erik acts the way he does and you feel nothing but sorrow and love for him. Raoul is also not such a twit and Christine is really quite likeable. I love how Erik is allowed his final sacrifice that shows how much he truly loved Christine and how Christine was so hurt at the decision she had to make...oh I love it and I sob so many times throughout the book.

The one with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. The book would have to be the original. :)
